Situated along the pristine South Australian coastline, the Robe project stands proudly, seamlessly blending the beauty of nature with the comforts of contemporary living. This coastal retreat captures the stunning views of the beach whilst showcasing a range of Innova™ products. The exterior facade boasts a combination of Nuline™ Plus weatherboards and Stratum™ weatherboards, while the interior features the sophisticated touch of Innova™’s Intergroove™ as a feature wall and highlight ceilings. Designed by architect Tim Hodges, this home is a testament to innovative design, practical materials, and the synergy between indoors and outdoors.
The Architect’s Vision
Architect Tim Hodges embraced a comprehensive brief from the get-go. His mandate was clear: to maximise the elevation of the plot and capitalise on the breath-taking views that the location offered. This served as the catalyst for a design journey that would redefine coastal living. Mr Hodges shared, “The challenge was to create a space that embraced the outdoors while providing expansive indoor areas that flowed seamlessly from one to the other.”
The architect’s dedication to fulfilling the client’s vision resulted in a residence that effortlessly harmonises with its surroundings. Mr Hodges was driven by the aspiration to achieve a coastal, modern Hamptons-style aesthetic for the exterior – a nod to the project’s beachside location. This aesthetic aspiration was elegantly realised through the choice of Innova™’s Nuline™ Plus weatherboards. This weatherboard style fibre cement board not only has aesthetic advantages, but practical ones too, including properties such as resistance to wind and sun. Its high durability also makes it resistant to rot and decay.

The square profile of these weatherboards, with its clean lines and timeless appeal, breathed life into this project “The square profile Nuline™ Plus weatherboards on the exterior were instrumental in achieving the modern Hamptons style that complements the coastal environment,” Mr Hodges explained.
Integral to the design’s success were the high raked ceilings creating an illusion of spaciousness; and framing the ocean views. Mr Hodges noted, “The high raked ceilings were pivotal in accentuating the stunning ocean views, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and the natural beauty outdoors.”
A key aspect of the design that sets the Robe project apart is the meticulous attention to detail. The long lines that feature on the exterior Nuline™ Plus weatherboards that extend indoors, thanks to Innova™’s Intergroove™ ceilings. This clever use of Intergrooveä not only enhances the design’s cohesion but also ensures continuity between the exterior and interior spaces. Hodges remarked, “The use of Intergrooveä on the raked ceilings created a perfect transition from the exterior weatherboards to the interior, establishing a harmonious flow.”
The combination of materials – Nuline™ Plus weatherboards and Stratum™ weatherboards – on the facade adds an alluring layer of texture and visual intrigue. This combination creates a dynamic frontage that reflects the home’s elegance and charm. Mr Hodges noted, “The combination of the Stratum™ and Nuline™ Plus creates some interest in the front façade of the house, capturing the essence of our modern coastal vision.”
In addition to the range of Innova™ fibre cement products specified for the Robe house, the plasterboard throughout the home is BGC Plasterboard’s GTEK™ range. This home features GTEK™ Wall throughout, GTEK™ Ceiling and GTEK™ Wet Area in the bathroom, laundry, and kitchen.
Where Practicality Meets Aesthetics
Beyond the aesthetics, the choice of fibre cement over traditional timber is a testament to the commitment to longevity and practicality. The harsh coastal environment demands materials that can withstand the elements while requiring minimal maintenance. Mr Hodges explained, “I specified fibre cement weatherboards instead of timber because of the longevity and low maintenance of this material, which is crucial in a coastal setting.”
The Robe project masterfully encapsulates the essence of coastal living through its thoughtful design and material selections. The interplay of Innova™’s Nuline™ Plus weatherboards, Stratum™ weatherboards, and Intergroove™ ceilings ensures this design is modern and elegant. This project serves as a timeless reminder of the transformative capabilities of Innova™ fibre cement, turning architectural dreams into living realities that stand the test of time.
